If there’s one thing every Crazy Busy Mama needs in her back pocket, it’s a quick and easy 15-minute skillet meal like this Philly Cheesesteak Tortellini. And let me tell you—this Recipe is a total dinnertime lifesaver. On those nights when you walk through the door right at dinnertime (or even later), this skillet dish comes through with comfort, flavor, and zero stress.
Wouldn’t it be lovely if everything always went according to plan? If you’re anything like me, you probably just laughed out loud. Because let’s be honest—once you become a mama, “according to plan” starts to feel like a fairy tale. I know that can be tough for those of us who live by our calendars and color-coded schedules, but sometimes, the most beautiful moments happen in the chaos.
The unplanned giggles around the table, the spontaneous dance parties in the kitchen—those moments are pure gold. That’s a God thing, no doubt. I like to think He watches our perfectly penciled-in plans and gives a little smile, knowing He’s already written a better story. His plans are full of hope, even if they don’t match our timelines.
Now don’t get me wrong—we still need to plan. Sports, school, family outings… all the things. As the saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” But sometimes, despite our best efforts, life has a way of rewriting the schedule. That’s when having a 15-minute meal like this in your back pocket saves the day.

I try to plan ahead with one of our favorite slow cooker meals if I know we’ll be out until dinner. Walking through the door to a ready-to-serve meal is the dream, right? But real life doesn’t always go that smoothly. Some days, we should be home in time to make that casserole—and then we’re not. Life happens.
Like the night I first made this Philly Cheesesteak Tortellini skillet meal. Fisher’s football game went into overtime, and we got home way later than planned. Sure, we could’ve hit a drive-thru, but feeding a big family that way isn’t exactly budget-friendly! And honestly, I’ll take a home-cooked meal over fast food any day—not just for the savings, but because there’s something special about gathering around the table, sharing a meal you made with your own hands. Plus, let’s be real—homemade food is just better for you.
So next time life throws an interception with your dinner plans, don’t stress. Just grab your skillet and whip up this Philly Cheesesteak Tortellini. It’s quick, easy, and guaranteed to bring your family to the table—overtime and all.

Prep & Sauté the Veggies

Slice the purple onion and green bell pepper into strips. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and toss in the veggies. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sauté until softened, about 5–7 minutes.

Cook the Philly Cheesesteak – Add the sirloin Philly steak into the skillet with the veggies. Cook everything together according to the instructions on the steak package, until the meat is fully cooked and tender.

Once the meat and veggies are done, transfer them to a bowl and set aside.
Make the Creamy Sauce – In the same skillet, pour in 1 cup of heavy whipping cream. Add the cream cheese and mozzarella cheese. Stir constantly over medium heat until melted and smooth — about 5 minutes.

Combine Meat & Veggies – Return the cooked steak and sautéed vegetables to the pan with the cream sauce. Stir to combine and let everything simmer on low heat.

Cook the Tortellini – In a separate pot, cook the cheese tortellini according to package instructions. Drain and add them into the creamy Philly cheesesteak mixture.

Mix everything well to coat the tortellini in that luscious sauce. Serve hot and enjoy every bite of this cheesy, hearty comfort dish!

This looks so simple and I know it will be delicious. Only thing I’ll do differently is use a yellow onion instead of the red.
Yes, I very seldom have purple onions. They are expensive and I don’t see the need. I just use yellow onion.
