There are certain meals that become more than just food—they become a memory, a tradition, a little slice of love served on a plate. For our family, Brat Burgers are exactly that.
They weren’t just a fun twist on your classic burger—they were one of my late husband Quintin’s many creative culinary experiments that quickly became a family favorite.

Q had a way with dinner. He wasn’t just the grill master (though he truly was king of the grill); he had this incredible knack for bringing something new and exciting to the table—literally. He loved firing up the grill, and he made it fun, always adding his own spin to things.
I especially loved evenings when he’d announce he had a new idea to try. It meant we were in for something delicious, and more often than not, it became something we’d ask for again and again.

These Brat Burgers were one of those recipes. The first time he made them, it was on a whim—he pulled out the cast iron skillet and got to work at the stovetop. We were all instantly hooked. After that, though, they became a staple on the grill, especially during our summer weekends at the lake.

Ah, the lake. That was Q’s happy place. Nothing lit up his face more than a day on the water, surrounded by the kids, good food, and laughter. Watching our children grow up at the lake, falling in love with the same things he did—it still fills my heart. There’s something special about seeing your kids love what their parents love. Seeing our children fill in some of the gaps he left when he unexpectedly passed, and seeing them doing the things he loved is keeping his memory alive in the most beautiful way.
We made so many treasured memories during those summers—lazy afternoons in the sun, boat rides that turned into splash wars, and of course, meals that brought us all together around the picnic table, often with these juicy, flavorful Brat Burgers at the center.

So today, I’m sharing this beloved recipe—not just because it’s delicious (and it is), but because it carries a piece of Q with it. This was one of his creations, and I’m honored to pass it on to you. Here's how my husband made his oh-so-delicious Brat Burgers—simple, savory, and full of love.

How to Grill Brat Burgers
Serve and Savor:
Take everything off the grill, pile on your favorite toppings, and dig into those juicy Brat Burgers!Fire Up the Grill:
Start by turning your grill to high heat and let it warm up for at least 10 minutes. I usually wait until the temperature hits around 400–450°F to get a good sear.Lower the Heat:
Once it’s nice and hot, dial the heat down to medium. This helps cook the burgers evenly without burning the outside.Get the Patties Ready:
Give the tops of your brat patties a quick mist of nonstick spray. This keeps them from sticking when you flip them onto the grill.Grill Time:
Place the patties spray-side down on the grates. Let them cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until they’re golden brown and cooked all the way through.Toast the Buns:
While the burgers finish up, toss the buns on the grill for a minute or two. Just enough to warm them up and get a light toast on the edges.
