These buttery Shortbread Cherry Bonbons are a classic holiday favorite — soft, tender cookies with a sweet maraschino cherry tucked inside. They’re melt-in-your-mouth delicious, beautiful on your Christmas cookie tray, and easier to make than you’d think!

Ingredients
  

  • Cookies
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 24 maraschino cherries drained & patted dry
  • Glaze Optional
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk or cherry juice from jar
  • ½ tsp almond or vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Oven
  • Set oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Make the Dough
  • Cream butter and powdered sugar until fluffy.
  • Mix in vanilla, then gradually add flour and salt.
  • If dough is too soft, chill for 15 minutes.
  • Wrap the Cherries
  • Flatten 1 Tbsp dough in your palm.
  • Place a maraschino cherry in the center and wrap dough around it to form a smooth ball.
  • Ensure no cherry juice seeps out.
  • Bake
  • Arrange on baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
  • Bake 12–15 minutes or until bottoms are lightly golden.
  • Cool completely before glazing.
  • Glaze (Optional)
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk (or cherry juice), and almond/vanilla extract.
  • Drizzle or dip cooled cookies for a glossy finish.
