Honey Chipotle Smash Tacos

Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp Cholula Chipotle Hot Sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp oil

For the Crema Sauce

  • 1/2 cup sour cream or Mexican crema
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp Cholula Original Hot Sauce

For the Tacos

  • Flour tortillas
  • Shredded Monterey Jack or Mexican blend cheese
  • Diced red onion
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Avocado slices optional

Instructions
 

Step 1: Cook the Chicken

  • Start by cutting your chicken into bite-sized pieces if needed. Season with salt and garlic powder.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the chicken. Let it cook without moving it too much at first so it gets a little color and crispiness.
  • Once it’s mostly cooked, add the garlic, honey, and Cholula Chipotle Hot Sauce.
  • At this point, the smell alone makes you feel like you actually know what you’re doing.
  • The honey balances the smoky chipotle perfectly and creates a sticky glaze that coats the chicken really well. Let it cook a few more minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

Step 2: Make the Crema Sauce

  • While the chicken finishes, mix together the sour cream, lime juice, garlic powder, salt, and Cholula Original Hot Sauce.
  • This sauce pulls everything together. It cools down the spice just enough but still adds a lot of flavor.
  • I definitely used the leftovers for chips after.

Step 3: Build the Smash Tacos

  • Lay out your tortillas and add a layer of shredded cheese, then the chicken.
  • Heat another pan with a little oil and place the tacos down. Press them lightly with a spatula while they cook.
  • This is what gives the honey chipotle smash tacos that crispy, golden outside with the melty inside.
  • Flip once golden and cook the other side.
  • The crispy tortilla and melted cheese are easily one of the best parts.

Step 4: Add the Toppings

  • Top with red onion, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, and drizzle the crema sauce over everything.
  • The fresh toppings balance out the sweet and smoky flavor and make the honey chipotle smash tacos taste even better.
  • This was the point where I looked at them and thought… okay, these actually turned out way better than I expected.
