Ingredients
  

  • Apple Filling
  • 3 medium apples Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled and diced
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • Cake Batter
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ tsp baking powder
  • ½ cup milk
  • Cinnamon Swirl
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk or cream
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Make the Apple Filling
  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 5 minutes until soft.
  • Stir cornstarch and water together, pour into skillet, and cook until thickened (1–2 minutes).
  • Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Make the Cake Batter
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9-inch pan.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  • Combine flour and baking powder, then alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the wet mix.
  • Assemble the Cake
  • Spread batter into the pan. Spoon apple filling over top and gently swirl with a knife.
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon for the swirl and sprinkle evenly across the top.
  • Bake
  • Bake for 40–45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Glaze
  • Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Drizzle over warm cake and let it soak in before slicing.
